Hunt letter on 1 MArch asking about hubby’s nationality and birthplace, naturalisation status, etc.on 2 March (the next day!) she writes husband German and never naturalised. adds a ‘P.S. Sir. I would like to respectfully inform you that I have close on one hundred native born, blood relatives in Victoria.’ Husband was Carl Christian Pipgras, a cutter, and they were married at Northcost by the Revd Mr Kellaway, C o E. ‘I have entered into a contract for the purchase of property’ to live in with hubby. 5 March - query to police in Carlton: is she ‘a fit and proper person’ and ‘the applicant’s associations with other Germans’.
- police report, 17 March 1915 by E M Sharpe, Constable, Carlston: maiden name of Esther Harding and was a dressmaker. ‘She is a respectable married woman and she only visitors to her place of residence is he own people. THere are no German people coming to her house whatsoever and her husband is very seldom out of the house.’ she is ‘a fit and proper person’. Her husband is a reservist. minister and AH support it and it is granted.
