p.8 application: 'Italin (by marriage only)' with both parents 'British born'. 'I have resideed in India up to January last and arrived back in Australia in February 1920 where I have since lived.'

Vindin & Littlejohn, Solicitors, to H&T D, 10 June 1920, p.5: above her not having resided for the previous 2 years, they explain that she was born and resident in Australia for 34 years before marrying an Italian, and they went to live in India, 'where he received British nationality' and he died there. 'The applicant on returning to Australia recently found herself in the false position of an alien, and [the rest is underlined by a pencil, not the original writer's pen] she naturally desires to rectify her status as soon as possible.'
They write again, 20 July 1922, p.3 - however, admit not in Australia but 'is now on her way from India to England where it is her intention to remain for some time.' They point out that her husband was naturalised in India on 10 Sept. 1914, according to the Indian Naturalisation Act of 1853.
