On another occasion, she applied for Old Age Pension and claimed to have been born in S Austral, and applied again with Germany as place of birth. ‘As Miss Gallas refused to register as an alien she was fined 1-/- by the magistrate. Miss Gallas is a stubborn and illiterate woman… Applicant is crippled with rheumatism and needs the old age pension. She will eventually become a charge upon the Commonwealth Government.’ Full police report, p.13-14, 22/10/1919. Originally refused in Jan 1918.
Police Report, p.13-14 - about her fraud and refusal to declair herself as an alien. Some leniency shown because a local J.P., Peter Miller, and Miss Jenner, Public School Teacher, told her to deny being an alien or she's lose the right to a pension.
