| Other information | Memorandum in 1917 says because son died in France and wants to be properly naturalised now. Police Report, p.7: 'the only country she can lay claim to belong to is Australia', as only French through marriage and Germany no longer considered her German. |
p.11 - She is 'German (French)' - born German but married a French man and states that she has letter from Germany stating that she is not considered German anymore. Husband in French military during Franco-Prussian War, and son during WWI.

From 2nd application, Memorandum, Foenander, p.3: born in Germany, married a Frenchman, then divorced. He died in 1914. Claims received letter from German gvt stating that she 'had lost her rights' to be a German because of the marriage. She has proof of husband's military service in French army. A son died in France fighting with Australian Imperial Forces. Local Constable writes police report about how he's known her for years and very respectable. p.7 Police Report - lives with 'Scotch' widow of her son. Still a feather dresser in 1917.
