Police Report, Constable V. Nelson, Armadale, Melbourne, 8 July 1916: she was interviewed. husband died 25 years ago, when youngest child was 15 months old. She owns c.70 acres of land in Newtown, left by husband. Her neighbours 'all give her the best of characters; she goes out very rarely, and when she does, she has to have some one with her as she is totally blind'. No 'enemy subjects' visit or mix with her, 'nor has she any sympathy with them. She is at heart a loyal British subject, and all her sympathy is with the Allies.' 'fit and proper person'
