Handwritten memo, from WZ to Sec: 'Forkel took the oath of neutrality last Sept: presumption therefore that he was not natld.: otherwise, he would have taken the oath of Allegiance.'

Police Report, A. J. Bruce, 1st Constable, Dundas, 12 March 1915: married since 1899 to German, K E Forkel, 2 kids. Lived in Sydney past 5 years, until past 6 months. In Sydney, resided with husband at "Stanworth", Bland Street, Harberfield, and later 37 Bathurst St, Woolahrra, then came to current place approx. 1 month before. Her and husband 'seem to be persons of good character, and appear to be living a quiet life here... [she] does not associate with Germans' but 'her husband is a member of the German Club in Sydney and was carrying on the business of Civil Engineer at 58 Margaret Street, Sydney, under the name of E. Lufft & Co. but owing to the war he was compelled to give up business and is now raising poultry... applicant is a fit and proper person'
