H&T Dept Memorandum, JWC, 15 June 1923: doesn't usually grant certificates to people living outside the country and thinks the advice from the High COmmissioner, which suggested they had power under 1920 Act to grant imperial natz 'not strictly correct'. 'Sec. 9 of the Cmth Nationality Act 1920 empowers the Gov. Someone has written underneath [FyN?], to Mr Carrodus [?], 15/6: 'Is there not a possiblity that she may be employed by the Crown?'
JWC, 15/6, reply: 'She may be... but if she is merely an official in a general capacity of the League of Nations I do not think she can be considered as being in the service of the Crown'
McLaren, Secretary, H&T, to Attorney-General's Dept., 28 june 1923: explains 'Applications for Certificates under the Nationality Act 1920-22 are frequently received by the Department from persons resident abroad who had been naturalized in Australia prior to the commencement of the Act.
