Info on Sophie's ship the Peter Godefroy: Barque Peter Goddefroy / Peter Godeffroy, 740 tons, Captain S. Johannsen, from Hamburg 11th May 1857, arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia 7th September 1857 ... departed Adelaide 16th September, arrived Melbourne 19th September 1857. The South Australian Register, Tuesday September 8 1857: Miscellaneous News: The Peter Godeffroy, from Hamburg, having 268 Passengers, arrived on Monday, en route to Melbourne. She has no cargo for Adelaide, and will most probably sail for Melbourne today. [the original Hamburg passenger list states a total of 258 steerage passengers and 11 cabin, which comprises 131 steerage for Adelaide and 127 steerage for Melbourne, for a total of 269 passengers].
There is a letter attached from Melbourne to a Solicitor (C.W.H. Lake, Esq of Murray Street, Tanunda, S.A.) requesting information on Franz Bitter and Sophie Bitter, the former is deceased but was naturalised on 2/8/09 - he was born in Kroepelin, Mecklenburg, Germany, on 11 July 1832 - and the latter was nauralised on 2/8/09, and was born in Kroepelin, Mecklenburg, Germany on 10 Feb 1837. The Oath of Allegiance was taken before Mr Thomas Gopp of Lyndoch, SA. No other correspondence, and not sure why this has been sent.
Have linked her to 1909/7895 Anne Leymann - same town of Lyndoch and applying at same time, but not sure any other connection.
